Monthly Finances May 2020

Well amazingly the month of May was spent in the same car park in Istanbul as April's post.   In fact of of the end of May we have spent a total of 75 days parked in the same car park.  It's amazing how familiar it all feels. It will, no doubt feel very strange when we do eventually leave.   All of the restrictions and self isolation has been a challenge for everyone. It is definitely going to be an interesting chapter of our journey and one we will all talk about for many years to come.In May the borders heading east to Georgia are still closed and so carrying on with our adventure at this point is no possible.  Even heading back into the EU is not an option as the borders are still closed. The three main factors affecting our onward journey are 1. Covid.   Who know what the future holds we just have to ride the wave and take it as it comes. 2, Travel InsuranceWe have travel insurance until end of December 2020 and we are covered for everything other than Covid.  Unfortunately world pandemics are not covered by insurance companies.  So we want to be in a country with both good medical and one that if we had a life threatening Covid situation, we could be able to…

Monthly Finances April 2020

Strangely,  I am writing this from the same car park in Istanbul - Turkey, as I did for last months post.   In fact today is day 64 in our car park,  which we are starting to call home, and day 56 self isolating.  What strange times we are in, and being self isolated in a 6m van is definitely creating some memories and will make a great story in years to come.    As always we like to look on the bright side, and one positive thing that has come from the situation we find ourselves in, is we have spent less than usual as we are not moving or going out.  It has also enabled us to spend time doing those things on our to do list, that we never usually get the time to do when we are on the road.   Like designing new T-shirts for our online shop.At this point in time we are still not sure how the world pandemic situation will affect our plans.  We are taking it one day at a time, because we really can't do anything else right now.   There is talk that movement will ease in Turkey at the end of May, so hopefully we will be able to move somewhere after that date.  We have also heard that the border…

Monthly Finances March 2020

This months finance blog is a little late - apologies.  I am writing this from a car park in Istanbul - Turkey  where we have been parked since the 11th March and self isolating in Trudy for 32 days.  Who would ever have thought we would end up being stuck in Turkey.  We expected breakdowns and other issues, but never for a moment did we expect a world wide pandemic to affect our travels. The good news is the parking area has ALL the facilities we need and the staff and locals here are amazing. We are blown away by the kindness and hospitality of the Turkish people.  Of all the places we could have got stranded we are pleased we are in Turkey - Country #30 since starting TREAD the Globe and our 14th country on our around the world drive.  I know you're wondering how does the current situation  affect our trip - the true answer is, we haven't got a clue. We are keeping busy and positive, just taking it one day at a time.  We have worked out that If we can get into Russia by July, then we should be able to still make it across before the weather turns.  If not, we will have no choice but to head back to the UK to reapply for our Russian…
